A few weeks ago, I gave a paper at a National Year of Reading event in my adopted home town of Solihull. They asked me if they could record my paper for a podcast or somesuch and I said yes, thinking I can get a transcript of the recording and then edit it for publication, saves me having to write out the paper in advance. So anyway the transcript arrived and I went through it on the train the other day and you know it works well just as it is, I can sort of see my voice if you see what I mean. So now I've revised my plan and I'll post the transcript on the website pretty much as it is without editorial intervention except where it needs some punctuation to make it intelligible. I'll play around with it over the weekend and then post it next week and you can tell me what you think about it, that's if there's anyone out there, sometimes I wonder and feel like copying Bruce Springsteen and shouting, in capital letters, IS THERE ANYONE ALIVE OUT THERE?? but then I think hey blogs are really written for their own sake not for an audience, so if you're not out there then it doesn't really matter...

But if you are, then have a good Bank Holiday weekend. I'll be mowing the lawn (weather permitting) and going to a wedding (hence my promise of a blogpiece on happiness) and enjoying the football. Man U and Chelsea and Rangers might have got this week's headlines but down here in 83rd place (or thereabouts) on the football pyramid we have our own triumphs to celebrate - like retaining League status for yet another season. Up the Shakers!
