Cost and culture are the major challenges facing adopters of RFID, and benefits to users and organisations will be lost if major barriers are not removed, according to Fiona Emberton of Embervision, who is presenting a conference paper on Integrating RFID - business process moves to centre stage.

These barriers can include "traditional library attitudes and behaviours, outdated work processes and weak management", says Fiona. "The library can become the loser to knee-jerk unstrategic cost cutting".

The new issue of CILIP's Gazette magazine, due out on 2 November, features a Preview of the conference. This includes comments from speakers on the conference theme of extracting real value from investment in RFID, focuses on RFID installations in Liverpool and Nottingham, and contains the latest RFID news.

Delegate numbers continue to build up and another challenging and interesting day is in prospect on 13 November. Online booking is available via the conference website or e-mail conferences@cilip.org.uk.
