Helping delegates to get online at Umbrella
The use of Web 2.0-enabled media such as blogs and Twitter will be of real assistance in ensuring Umbrella receives the widest possible exposure as the CILIP’s flagship event. To help achieve this objective, delegates are encouraged to blog and post to Twitter and other social media sites, so the issues raised and discussed during the two days reach the widest possible audience. The Twitter hashtag for Umbrella 2009 is #cilipumbrella.
At the venue, the conference rooms and two exhibition halls are all Wi-Fi enabled, so there should be no problems in accessing the web to make posting and stay in touch online. There is also free web access available in each exhibition hall via the two Internet Cafes.
CILIP encourages attendees to post to the web using their chosen channel, and we are providing the infrastructure to support them. There will be no attempt to formalise the approach or consolidate this activity via “official” channels, so by the very nature of a multi-channel programme there may be some overlap and contra postings etc. However we believe it is right to ensure those unable to attend get a flavour of the Library Event of the Year.
To get a more personal view of Umbrella visit CILIP’s Council Matters blog, where trustee Isabel Hood Demystifies Umbrella. She also explains out how delegates can meet up with CILIP council members both on the corporate stand and when they are out and about during the two days of the show.
