'World Names Profiler' - Phil Bradley's site of the month

From the magazine's monthly 'Internet Q&A' column, written by Phil Bradley (www.philb.com):

My site of the month is the World Names Profiler

It was launched recently and was really hard to get into, but now the fuss has died down it’s much more stable. It allows you to input a surname (your choice of 8 million) and see the distribution of that name around the globe (or at least 26 countries).

If you or your users are into genealogy or family history this is an intriguing and fun site.

NB I tried out the site and even found that there was a hotspot of Mezeys in West London - funny to see my own closest relatives cropping up in the top 5 cities! (Especially as there are in fact far more Mezeys in Hungary - where the name comes from - or in Romania (ie Transylvania) or even in the US). No Hungarian cities in the top 5 at all, which is clearly incorrect...

And, even more strange, Woodford Green (London) has now – I see – bumped my bit of West London out of the top 5 'Mezey' cities...

So – exact accuracy aside – it's a fun site...
