    New date for Carnegie Day

Are any other schools finding the new date (June insted of July) hard to cope with? This year we seam to have run out of time to read the books, and have lost one of our group compeltly to his GCSE's. Also we have just discovered that year 7 exams are taking place on June 26th, and half our readers are in year 7. I'm sure it wasn't this tricky to arrange everything when it was in July last year!

We have also found the new timescale difficult.  Exams and school trips falling during June has made reading all of the books difficult for our reading club.  The July date was definitely easier to accommodate within the school's calendar.

Many Independent schools break up in the first few days of July, frequently on or before Carnegie Day in previous years, which made it very difficult to hold a satisfactory concluding meeting.

The new date suits Scottish schools much better - we stop tomorrow, so in past years we had our awards breakfast about 2 weeks before the winner was announced!  It is still tricky, being the last week of term and with 4 different trips being away, but at least we are still in school when the winner is announced.  The school year is so busy that there is probably no time which will suit everyone.

Re: New date for Carnegie Day

The date is good for our school and other (international) schools who deliver the IB programme (rather than A levels), as our exam period is May-June, so although the CM winner is announced during our last week of term, at least the Shadowers (Y7-10) are still in school.

As for clashing with other co/curricular activities - please show me a SINGLE week in any large school's calendar where NO clashes occcur and I'll buy you a latte!

Yes, we also found it hard going. Have found in the past that book content is not always suitable for lower years. Therefore my shadowing group is limited to Yrs 9 & 10. However this meant that Carnegie clashed with end of year exams. It's always tight, previously the winner was announced on our last day of term when we finish at 12noon!

The date was fine for my school although there has been so much going on this year being the National Year of reading .We were involved in the Red House award has well so there was a slight overlap and we have had a book quiz going on between our secondary schools so another set of books had to be read for that. All I seem to have done this year is read children's books.
