Librarians and information professionals in universities and colleges make a vital contribution to teaching and learning. We work to ensure that this is recognised by employers, politicians, the media and the public.
There are currently 9792.1 FTE library/information staff working across 567 academic library service points in the UK (SCONUL statistics 2016, covering academic year 2014/15). They are supporting 2,280,830 undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as 201,380 academic staff (HESA, 2015/16).
The Academic and Research Libraries Group (ARLG) aims to provide a focus and forum for the professional concerns and interests of everyone working in academic or research libraries, linking those with current and emerging issues and developments and the overall direction of CILIP’s corporate plan.
