School librarians help children and young people navigate the information world, improving their information literacy skills, and as a result, their life chances. They also make a vital contribution to teaching and learning. We believe in the value and importance of the professionally managed school library. We advocate for school libraries and librarians through our campaigns, consultation responses and ongoing public affairs activity.
The School Libraries Group support members and hold a conference every two years which provides a forum for discussion and debate on current issues in school librarianship. SLG also hold regional training courses on a wide range of topics concerned with school librarianship and campaign in support of school libraries, school librarians and Schools Library Services (SLSs). The group publishes the journal School Libraries in View (SLiV), circulate a monthly e-newsletter to members and produce publications such as CILIP Guidelines for Secondary School Libraries.
